By TUI Tuesday, 18th April 2017 | 0 comments
In a wide ranging address to 500 delegates in Cork this afternoon, Teachers' Union of Ireland (TUI) General Secretary John MacGabhann tackled a number of issues relating to education and industrial relations including the campaign for pay equalisation, the funding crisis in Institutes of Technology and workload issues affecting members.
Almost 30% of recent entrants to post-primary teaching believe it is unlikely or very unlikely that they will still be in the profession in ten years’ time, according to the findings of a new survey by the Teachers’ Union of Ireland (TUI). The union is calling for an acceleration of pay parity and an end to discrimination against younger teachers.
The Teachers’ Union of Ireland (TUI) has called for the application of a 1% levy on corporate profits to tackle the funding crisis afflicting the Irish higher education sector.
A message from the National Council for Special Education (NCSE):

TUI maintains a high level of vigilance in relation to the issue of member workload. In 2015, the Union carried out a survey of the workload of teachers which, thanks to major engagement from members, provided extremely important data which was then used to inform the Union’s position in discussions with the Department of Education and Skills and other education partners and also in the national media. This year, ahead of Annual Congress 2017, we are updating the research.
