Changes to vaccination rollout programme

TUI notes today’s announcement of changes to the national vaccination rollout programme. Specifically, from next Monday, 5th July, individuals aged between 18 and 34 can begin to access the Johnson and Johnson vaccine in pharmacies, while in addition, from Friday, 9th July, those aged between 30 and 34 can begin to register at Vaccine.hse.ie for an mRNA vaccine.  Together with our sister unions the INTO and the ASTI, TUI wrote last week to the Taoiseach, Minister Foley, Minister Donnelly, NPHET, NIAC and the HSE to emphasise the need for school staff to be vaccinated as a matter of urgency. TUI welcomes confirmation of greater choice in 2022 State examinations

The Teachers’ Union of Ireland (TUI) has welcomed the confirmation that there will be adjustments which will incorporate additional choice for the Leaving Certificate and Junior Certificate examinations in 2022. The union has called for full details on the changes to issue in the coming weeks so that students and teachers know where they stand ahead of the school year.

Health and safety must be paramount in further and higher education return – TUI

Noting the publication of A Safe Return to on-site further and higher education and research today, the Teachers’ Union of Ireland (TUI), which represents over 19,000 members at second level, further and higher education has said that the plans must be fully consistent with the most up-to-date public health advice and that the health and safety of all students and staff must be paramount at all times in the process. The union stated that any changes in general public health advice must also be immediately reflected in the plan. Clear and consistent policy and communication on the public health requirements across further and higher education providers will be essential to establishing the necessary degree of confidence and keeping everyone safe.  TUI President Martin Marjoram said that academic staff had displayed great flexibility in the provision of remote learning during the pandemic, notwithstanding the additional work involved.

Students must not lose out due to Leaving Cert results date – TUI

Responding to Minister Foley’s announcement that this year’s Leaving Certificate results will issue on 3rd September, the Teachers’ Union of Ireland (TUI) has said the relevant Departments must ensure that no student in the class of 2021, including those who may be looking at further study options outside the State, should lose out due to the timeline.
