Welcomes new Minister for Education and Science

TUI President Tim O’ Meara today said:
“TUI congratulates Batt O’ Keeffe on his appointment as Minister of Education and Science. We welcome Minister O’ Keeffe to his new portfolio and anticipate that he will have a genuine commitment to tackling the various challenges facing Irish education today.
As a former TUI member in the third level sector, he should be acutely aware of the funding deficit many Institutes of Technology are now facing.
Overall, there is an urgent need for a significant increase in funding for education across all sectors to ensure that every citizen has the right to a world class education.
Lack of provision for those with special educational needs, student disruption, the sharp increase in newcomer students and antiquated computer and science facilities pose daily challenges to teachers and students every day. We would be anxious to discuss these issues with Minister O’ Keeffe at his earliest convenience.”
