Syllabi Delay Shows Nothing But Contempt - TUI

With the State examinations still in progress, the Teachers' Union of Ireland (TUI) has expressed exasperation at the continued delay in implementing the new Art Syllabus at Leaving Certificate four years after it was approved through a consultative process. The union is appalled at the Department's inertia and is demanding that it reconsider its decision. TUI has warned that new courses could be outdated before they are actually implemented.


Union calls for end to academic apartheid

The Teachers’ Union of Ireland (TUI) has called for schools which engage in educational apartheid to be ‘named and shamed’. As part of a wide ranging policy paper on school enrolment issues, the union, which represents 13,000 members, has called for the elimination of the selective processes by which siblings are guaranteed a place in the event of one family member gaining access to a school.
