Haiti Earthquake Disaster

(21 Jan 2010)

At its last meeting, TUI's Executive committee decided to make a contribution to the Haiti Earthquake Disaster.   This money is being sent immediately to the disaster fund in such a manner as to have maximum effect with minimal administrative costs.   Following consideration, the contribution is being sent to the organisation “Haven” which is active in Haiti.   Its website is www.havenpartnership.com.

An alternative organisation for members to donate to is the Convent of Jesus and Mary Haiti Fund, an organisation responsible for pre-school education, the training of teachers, construction of buildings and food programmes in the area. One of the key volunteers, TUI member Sr Rose Kelly has been working on the ground among the the most disadvantaged communities in the country for five years. Donations can be made to the Convent of Jesus and Mary Haiti Fund account at the Bank of Ireland, Salthill, Account No 93287126 Sort Code 903840.

The Executive Committee has also suggested that branches might consider making a contribution to the fund also. This might be done from the branches own existing funds; a branch collection could be considered or indeed a combination of both.

Any funds being sent by the branch can be either sent directly to one of the aid agencies or can be sent to this office for transmission to the agency by way of one single payment.
