Update re areas affected by flooding: It has been decided that where schools are closed as a result of flooding or flooding related issues that members are not required to picket the school. In this regard members should consult with colleagues in other unions.
Some members have been asked to indicate their availability/non availability for work tomorrow. TUI has already advised all employers that TUI members are not available – therefore members should not respond to any query as to availability.
Below is an extract from a letter from the Department of Education and Science which is on the Department website. TUI has no difficulty with this.
"Teaching and non teaching staff who are not members of unions and who do not intend to participate in the public service strike should notify the managerial authority of their school in writing in advance of the 24th November of their availability to undertake normal work duties on that day. This documentation should be retained by the managerial authority of the school."
