A message from TUI President Don Ryan
Vote ‘No’ to protect your jobs and those of your colleagues
The Executive Committee has considered the recent clarifications received from the DES and from the Labour Relations Commission (LRC) facilitators.
The clarifications do nothing to dispel the vagueness, uncertainty and unacceptability of the original proposals and the position of TUI remains as it was- a total and unambiguous rejection of the Croke Park agreement.
There may be money to be saved in certain sections of the public service - but not in education - it has been bled dry by successive governments, especially so in the budget of October 2008.
The only possible way further savings can be made in the education sector are:
• if we are complicit in inflicting further damage on our schools and colleges
• if we displace our part-time colleagues by doing their work or
• if we allow the dismantling of the limited promotional opportunities available to teachers and lecturers.
For these reasons, the proposals regarding the comprehensive review and revision of teachers’ and lecturers’ contracts, in addition to the delivery of an additional hour are totally unacceptable.
Vote ‘No’ to the dismantling of the education system
